Gian Paolo Sanzogno :
Born in Venice, Enrolled at the University of Milan, signing up at the
same time for music studies with Bruno Bettinelli and conducting Franco
Ferrara.His activity as conductor happens in the main Italian cities: Rome (Filrmonica), Milan (RAI), Venice (Teatro la Fenice), Florence (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), Naples, Verona, Catania etc. abroad: in Paris, where was the sole Italian conductor invited for century of glorious “Concerts Lamourex”, in this occasion he executed Verdi's Requiem at Madeleine Church, in Lisboa (“Werther” with Alfredo Kraus), Tokio (Philharmonic Orchestra and New City Orchestra), Osaka (Philharmonic Orchestra), Barcellona (Teatro de Liceu) then Madrid, Bilbao, Sevilla, Athens etc. Has accompanied numerous soloists among which we remember with pleasure A. Weissemberg, P. Zuckermann, B. Canino, M. Tipo, A. Specchi, B. Cavallo, L Valentini-Terrani, G. Bumbry etc. He has performed several first performance of contemporary music and owns wide repertoire of lyrical and symphonic music. Started initially as symphonic conductor has then faced, with success of public and detail-review, works romantic-classic repertoire and 900' music: among his records, it appears a rare Giordano's opera “La Cena della Beffe”. He inaugurated Sivilla's Maestranza Theatre with a concert and “Rigoletto” opera with Alfredo Kraus, performed on occasion of EXPO 92' “Favorita” by Donizzetti. Among “mark of honour” that have been conferred upon him, we remember the “Silver Protagonist” and gold medal of honour awarded by “Little Angels Foundation of Seul. Very attentive to performance and divulgation of 900' Italian, makes use long since of discovering musicians of worth unjustly neglected: emblematic “Aldo Finzi case” of whom Sanzogno Performed a great part of his production; recently has spoken on Finzi in Paris (Senate of Republic, during a round upon “Finzi's case 1897-1945”). About concert executed ad Plaza de Toros in Madrid, unique in his kind which numbered of singers like Ricciarelli, Kraus, Raimondi, Valentini-Terrani, Coni was extract “Platinum Record” of sales in Spain and distributed all over world. Again, concerts for Spanish television as those Lanzarote with Kraus; “Werther” (Licieu, Barcellona) has been broadcasting by television several times, so like video “My favourite opera” (rehearsals with Kraus at San Carlo Theatre of Lisbon) filmed form Eurocart International of Stuttgart. Video that Antenne 2 (France 2) dedicates to great soprano Renata Scotto (she had wanted Sanzogno as condutor) was broadcasting in various accasion in France and Switzerland. He took part in EXPO of Seville conducting “Favorita” (with Sh. Verret, Kraus) repeated in Madrid: in those occasion it was drawn a video that on initiative of “Infanta” Elèna of Spain was selled for sake of beneficence in the world. Meeting with Alfredo Kraus was determinant for him self career (“Lucia di Lammermoor at Liceu): Kraus choose Sanzogno as his favourite conductor and several years long he didn't show himself before an audience otherwise under Sanzogno's baton (operas, concertos all Europe and in occasion of Barcellona's Olympiad). At Dal Verme Theatre in Milan realized with Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra in experimental form, a lucky season of operas, presented in a half-scenic manner:”Cavalleria Risticana” by Mascagni, “Le Villi” by Puccini; “ Pagliacci” by Leoncavallo, was an historical recalling of performance took place in the same Theater on August 1915 with Caruso, A. Toscanini. He executed some years ago a praised performance 0f “Un Ballo in maschera” by Verdi, an event which pointed out his debut in China (Poly Theatre).
